JOHN DE LEO & FABRIZIO TARRONI

John De Leo – vocals, live looping sampler, toy Karaoke, throat microphone;

Fabrizio Tarroni – guitar, vocals

The voice of John De Leo has established itself through a thousand tonal metamorphoses across the territories of rock, jazz, and contemporary music. In addition to his success with Quintorigo (of which he was co-founder and vocalist from 1992 to 2004; after 21 years apart, 2025 saw their reunion), De Leo has participated in numerous theatrical productions and has frequented the national jazz scene alongside Enrico Rava, Paolo Fresu, Fabrizio Bosso, Gianluca Petrella, Gianluigi Trovesi, Stefano Bollani, Danilo Rea, Rita Marcotulli, Roberto Gatto…

De Leo has elevated Italian songwriting far above a collage of sparsely harmonized lyrics. With a voice that acts as a chameleon-like musical instrument, De Leo has very few equals in the Italian singing landscape; he is instead considered an heir to the vocal experimentations of Demetrio Stratos or Cathy Berberian. This uniqueness has always been evident throughout his career, marked by collaborations—not only musical—with Stewart Copeland, Uri Caine, Louis Andriessen, Trilok Gurtu, Stefano Benni, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Carlo Lucarelli, Franco Battiato, Ivano Fossati, Alessandro Bergonzoni, and many others.

The musical partnership with guitarist Fabrizio Tarroni dates back to the dawn of De Leo's career. Capable of interpreting his semi-acoustic Gibson as a true percussion instrument, Tarroni blends this original technique with John's eclectic ideas and voice.

A historic collaboration well summarized by De Leo himself: “Fabrizio and I have been playing together since we were ‘sbarbi’ [youngsters], as they say in Bologna. From that remote 1990 to today, Fabrizio has often been part of my projects, following me without ever wavering in both mainstream operations and the wildest artistic ventures. Besides being a guitarist, he has been my co-producer, co-arranger, co-author, co-nselor—co-everything, practically. Even sound engineer and a ‘fixer’ in the style of Mr. Wolf. To put it plainly, he is something of my guardian angel.”
